Our Story
The Committee of Correspondence is a project that was borne out of the result of many candid conversations, discussions, and debates amongst a group of concerned Americans, different in many ways, but all doubtful and fearful about the future of the “great experiment” that is our Republic. We all hoped and prayed that our fears would prove false, and that America would never again place into power those who would destroy our liberties from within. That fear began to take shape on November 5, 2024 and emerged in all its fury on January 20, 2025 with the return of Donald Trump to the Presidency. Since his ascendancy once again to the office of President, we have seen our rights and liberties violently abused and the rule of law trampled upon. Day by day we watched as Mr. Trump and his administration usurped the power of Congress and the American people and abused their authority and stood helplessly as Congress abjured its responsibilities to check executive overreach. We knew that something must be done, but what? While there are many other groups and individuals speaking up and out against the dismantling of our institutions and laws, many of the members of our collective could not openly speak up for fear of reprisal. After many sleepless nights and hours of reflection, we came upon the idea of a modern day Committee of Correspondence.
The Story Behind the Name
Why Committee of Correspondence? Why not another more inspiring name? The Committee of Correspondence has its roots in the Committees of Correspondence formed prior to our War for Independence. In the face of tyranny and suppression of the press by the British crown, colonial leaders and Patriots formed Committees of Correspondence. These served two purposes. Firstly, they passed information on to all colonists and patriots regarding actions undertaken by George III and his lackeys in the colonies. Secondly, they established a form of a shadow government in opposition to the royal governors. These Committees would form the core of the original resistance against the abuse of power and tyranny perpetuated by the British crown. With this in mind we determined that a modern day Committee of Correspondence must be established, not to create a shadow government, but to allow ordinary citizens to speak out and resist the injustices perpetrated by those in power.
Our Mission
Our mission is a simple one. While the catalyst for the Committee is the administration of Donald Trump and the current Congress, we will continue to call out injustice and the erosion of rights and liberties no matter who holds power. Our vow is to call out tyranny both here in this nation and around the world. We will lawfully resist the dictates and whims of would-be tyrants and all who seek to empower them, including any legislators who have freely ceded their power and shirked their sacred duties to government. We will demand accountability from the judiciary to uphold the law fairly in line with the dictates of the United States Constitution. Lastly, we pledge to demand that those holding office remember their sacred oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution and protect all Americans.
We will do all of this through peaceful means. Violence is not the answer. We must and will use the power of our collective voice, the power of the pen, the power of the ballot box, and the power of truth to reforge our nation as it was meant to be. We will be advocates for those who are too frightened, too sick, too weak, too overwhelmed to speak for themselves. We serve our fellow Americans and ultimately those around the world. By the power of words, we will fight and give voice to those who have none.
