A Hundred Days into the Maelstrom
At the time of this writing, Donald Trump has been in office one hundred days. One hundred days into a second term, that by all rights could have been avoided. One hundred days of deception and lies. One hundred days of incompetence and buffoonery. One hundred days of retribution and revenge. One hundred days of terror and lawlessness. One hundred days of uncertainty and chaos. No matter how we spin it, this much remains certain: the second presidency of Donald Trump could very well sound the final death knell for the United States of America.
While many would seek to correct course and steer us away from this maelstrom of epic proportions, not so with our fearless captain at the helm. Nay, instead of giving the order to full stop, he hath told the crew to go full steam ahead directly into the vortex of a modern day Charybdis.
Much like that whirlpool of Odyssean myth, we now find ourselves in deep, treacherous waters with little hope of escape. The economy is in shambles. Egg and gas prices are still up. People are barely making ends meet and yet still our “dear leader” and his loyal goons preach that we must sacrifice now for we will of course profit later. This of course comes from a man who has the fantastic track record of at least six bankruptcies and is notorious for failing to pay his workers. Yet it will be alright in the end he tells us for he is ushering in a “golden age” for America where his tariffs will eliminate our income tax and make us all filthy, stinking rich. Well, it would if we deliberately crashed the stock market and then bought stocks at lower prices, and then suddenly announced that the tariffs are off. Alas, we ordinary Americans believe in following the law and therefore we will never reap these profits. Rather, we will starve so that the bloated gold-plated calf may gorge himself on that which so rightfully belongs to us the people.
It is not only our economy that has foundered upon the rocks, but our very reputation and credibility as a nation. Once seen as the bastion of liberty, our nation now seems to be nothing more than a third-rate banana republic run by a gibbering madman and his pack of grinning jackals. They strip us of our freedoms not just day by day but hour by hour. Targeting whomever they deem an enemy of the state, they utilize every rule in the playbook of the dictator.
They have arrested innocent men and women some on the verge of finalizing their citizenship. They have expelled four year olds with cancer and then made the claim that it was what the parents wanted or barring that they have disappeared these children into the abyss that is the American foster care system. Agents of the state without badges, without identification, and with no warrants have burst into private homes, never mind the Fourth Amendment right against unreasonable searches and seizures. They have silenced the press and continue to blame this all at the footsteps of the “deep state” and the “liberals”. They have threatened our institutions of higher learning and vowed to either dismantle them or barring that choose what they might teach.
With overwhelming force, they kidnap students in broad daylight and shuffle them off to cells all because they dare to speak out against injustice. When the courts demand their release, the administration refuses to comply and then threatens those very same judges. These judges are now forced to risk their very lives and their freedom to uphold their oaths, and yet those threats are now manifesting themselves as very real, with the first arrest of a judge. Her alleged crime? Blocking federal law enforcement from arresting an illegal immigrant with no judicial warrant and speaking out against the would be dictator so his henchmen ordered her arrest nor will her arrest be the last.
While the courts are stymied, the band of misfits who run our government are busy spilling secrets to our enemies or spouting idiotic nonsense. The Secretary of Defense has been twice caught sharing classified information over an unsecured messaging app. Under any other administration this would have resulted in a swift resignation or an equally rapid and public termination from office. Yet not under Trump. No instead he is praised and allowed to rant about the “fake news” and their “smears against him’ and the National Security Advisor denies that he set up any sort of unsecured chat.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, better known for illegally shooting bears, believes that all those who suffer from autism will never hold jobs or be able to wipe their rear ends without assistance and feels that vaccines are the cause of this and other ills. These bald-faced lies do nothing except spread fear and uncertainty and now he plans to start a registry of those with autism. If this does not smack of 1930s Germany, then we don’t know what does.
Nor does it end here. We have a Secretary of State who has openly admitted to seeking other nations where we can deport not just illegal immigrants, but American citizens convicted of crimes all for a liberal greasing of the palm with gold and a Secretary of Commerce who flouts Trump’s Gold Immigration Visa to multi-billionaires who seek not to invest in this nation, but only to exploit. Let us not forget to mention all the members of Congress who have forsaken their oaths to represent us the people and defend us against the overreach of a would be king. Nay, they instead bow down even farther and kiss not only the ring but the posterior of this blubbering tyrant. For 30 pieces of silver they have betrayed us and betrayed the world.
These are but a few of the thousands of instances of our nation descending further and further into disaster. Make no mistake though. This is no accident. The ship that is our nation is not rudderless . It is sailed by a crew of the damnable and the dangerous and is deliberately being driven into the maelstrom, for nefarious purposes. It would be in fitting with the con-man in chief if this were all some elaborate scam, but unlike his other scams, this one will have lasting consequences and lead not only us but the world into the abyss, unclear if we can ever resurface and find the passage to safer shores.
